As the island was
much-frequented place of birds during the seasonal migrations, it was
named as Bird Island. During Ottoman reign, the island started to be
called as the Pigeon Island.
In the
Ottoman times and also before, the island was used for securing the
shores and for preventing the attacks from the sea. Today, the island
is the ideal place to watch the panoramic view of the city and to
witness the best sunset of the world. You can also sip your drink at
one of the cafes on the island. They have the local drinks and with
beautiful scenery they are best for relaxation.
